The Marathon Shuffle is the only annual event that takes place on the Sunshine Coast Trail at this time, but a relay is being planned for the summer of 2013, so stay tuned!
The Marathon Shuffle is an annual rite of spring for many - it takes place on the last Sunday of every April. There are two options for participants:
- The Full Shuffle, which is 29 km and starts at Malaspina Road, traversing Thunder Ridge, Toquenatch, Marathon, Appleton Creek, Sliammon Lakes and Scout Mountain trails, finishing at the Shingle Mill just in time for a cold drink.
- The Half Shuffle, which is 12 km and starts at Southview Road, traversing Sliammon Lakes and Scout Mountain trails, also concluding at the Shingle Mill Pub & Bistro.
The Marathon Shuffle is hosted by PR PAWS, the Powell River Hikers, the BOMB Squad and Club Fat Ass. This event attracts runners and hikers from across the province, and further afield as well. The current record holders for the Full Shuffle are:
- Male: Chris Bratseth (Powell River) 2:54:46
- Female: Nadine Butler (Terrace) 3:04:50
