Year End Report
December 28, 2007
Happy New Year,
Once again we have finished a year of trail building and clearing, doing our best to keep up with the effects of the numerous storms that occurred early this year, and again more recently during November and December. PAWS’ own weekly volunteer efforts were supplemented by a group of north of town volunteers, and by members of the BOMB Squad. We thank them for their important contributions.
In addition PR PAWS was able to access Forest Investment Account (FIA) funding this year to make improvements on the Sunshine Coast Trail (SCT). PR PAWS is very thankful to BC Timber Sales, which helped us access the funding. We were very pleased with the work done by the Sliammon crew, which was hired in the spring, and by the Results Based Forest Management crew hired this fall. Combined these two crews made significant improvements in the Mount Troubridge section of the Sunshine Coast Trail. The trail was brushed out from Saltery Bay, to Rainy Day Lake, over the top of Troubridge, and down the other side past Elephant Lake, to Lois Lake. RBFM also cleared a rugged section on Walt Hill in the Smith Range. PAWS members worked with the crews, providing information and assistance, over 50 km in total .
We now have begun a blog on our website that shows when which trails have been cleared. This will help you pick trails that are likely to have few if any obstructions. Simply go to www.sunshinecoast-trail.com and click on Current Conditions on the home page. The most recent entries are at the top, older ones near the bottom of the page. Further improvements to the website are being planned.
Providing these services and more requires money.
Have you made your contribution to PRPAWS yet? If not, this is your last chance to make your gift and be eligible to receive a tax receipt for 2007. Send in your gift postmarked no later than December 31st. PRPAWS (1992) is of course a non-profit society with charitable status (Revenue Canada number: 89027 0994 RR0001) and your funds go entirely toward maintaining and improving our local trails, and protecting our environment. Our accountant will make out a receipt and send it to you early in 2008.
Thank you for your donation. We really do appreciate your help in providing this community service and wish you a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Happy trails,
Wes Bingham, Lita Biron, Scott Glaspey, Lars Hawkes, Peter Parlevliet, Jim Stutt, Richie Tait, Monty Tyrwhitte-Drake, Eagle Walz (PAWS Executive Committee) and Hilary Bruhn, accountant.
